The Department of Computing warmly welcomed the 2024/2025 student intake on 22 July 2026, marking the beginning of an exciting academic journey for 144 newly enrolled undergraduate students.
Following the University’s main inauguration ceremony, the Department hosted a dedicated welcome programme in the evening to introduce the new entrants and their parents to the Department’s academic environment, achievements, and student community.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome by the Head of the Department, who congratulated the new students on joining the Department of Computing and wished them every success in their academic journey. The Head encouraged the students to embrace the opportunities available at the University, pursue academic excellence, actively engage in extracurricular activities, and develop the professional and personal competencies required to become future leaders in the computing profession.
During the session, the Department showcased its academic achievements, learning resources, research culture, and the significant progress made over the years. The inspiring success stories of the Department’s alumni were also shared, demonstrating the diverse career paths and accomplishments of graduates in academia and the IT industry. These stories served to motivate the new entrants as they embark on their university education.
The event also featured interactive presentations by the Association of Rajarata Information and Communication Technologists (ARICT) and the IEEE Student Branch, where student leaders introduced the clubs, highlighted their activities, and encouraged the new students to actively participate in technical, leadership, and community engagement initiatives. The interactive sessions provided an excellent opportunity for students to connect with their senior peers and gain insight into the vibrant student life within the Department.
The programme concluded with an open discussion session for parents, during which they raised questions regarding academic programmes, student support services, facilities, and university life. Members of the Department’s academic staff addressed these queries comprehensively, fostering confidence and strengthening the partnership between the University and the parents in supporting the students’ academic success.
