Dr. Jinendrika Anushi Weliwita, Engineering Technology and Science, Higher Colleges of Technology, UAE
Dr. Jinendrika Anushi Weliwita is an applied mathematician and certified AI engineer with over 15 years of academic and research experience. She holds a PhD in Dynamical Systems from the University of Leeds and a Master of Advanced Study in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge. Her academic lineage traces directly back to Sir Isaac Newton, through a distinguished genealogy of pioneering mathematicians, reflecting a deep-rooted legacy in mathematical sciences.
Dr. Weliwita’s interdisciplinary research spans computational fluid dynamics, artificial intelligence, and sustainable technologies. She previously served as a Research Scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Germany, where she collaborated with NASA on modeling convection and magnetism in solar physics. She is currently collaborating with the Institute of Fluid Dynamics (UK) on AI-assisted modeling of magnetoconvection and with the FRC on biochar-based water purification systems.
She is currently serving at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) in the UAE as part of her professional development journey to enhance innovative teaching practices using technology. She integrates digital tools and active learning models to support student success and curriculum transformation. She will continue in this role until December, after which she is set to resume a new academic appointment in the UK.
