Rajarata University of Sri Lanka Welcomes the 2024/2025 Batch (Intake VX) of Bachelor of Science External Degree Students

The Faculty of Applied Sciences of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka ceremonially inaugurated the 15th batch of students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science External Degree Programmes in Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences on 25^th March 2026 at the University’s Main Auditorium. The event marked an important milestone in the Faculty’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to higher education.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. M. B. Jayathilaka, and was graced by the presence of the Director of the Centre for Distance and Continuing Education (CDCE), Prof. W. P. Wijewardena, Registrar Ms. S. C. Herath, and Senior Assistant Registrar (CDCE), Mr. W. M .K. Upuldeniya.

The event was conducted in a hybrid format, with approximately 50 students participating virtually via Zoom. The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Manoj Fernando. This was followed by an inspiring address from the Vice Chancellor, who encouraged the new entrants to pursue their academic journey with dedication and enthusiasm. A key highlight of the ceremony was the official launch of the programme website by the Vice Chancellor, showcasing the distinctive features and academic strengths of the degree offerings.

The formal proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Chairperson of the Board of Study in BSc in Biological Sciences, Dr. W. M. G. A. S. T. B. Wijetunga.

Following the inauguration ceremony, an orientation programme was conducted to familiarise students with key aspects of the degree programmes. The Academic Coordinator of the External Degree Programmes, Prof. T. V. Sundarabarathy, delivered a presentation outlining the online learning process and provided an overview of the degree structure.

An introductory session on the Learning Management System (LMS) was conducted by Dr. C. A. Thotawattage, Chairperson of the Board of Study in BSc in Physical Sciences. The session covered login procedures, system navigation, and the range of subjects available within the degree structure, with valuable contributions from Subject Matter Experts representing the respective subject areas.

The successful execution of the event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the organizing team, led by the Secretary, Ms. M. S. V. Senevirathna, along with the staff of the External Degree Programme Unit and the Faculty. Their commitment and coordination ensured a smooth and meaningful inauguration ceremony.
